Gallery The dumpster, as he later
came to know it was, seemed to be about half full of various things. Just
then the little raccoon heard a noise behind him. He turned to see what it was,
and suddenly a medium-sized, Labrador retriever lumbered into the scene. The dog
walked over to a small building near the bottom of the ladder, mumbled something
the raccoon could not understand, and plopped down with his tail leaning against
the dumpster. The raccoon knew he could not go back down the ladder now, but he
also could not stay atop the side of the dumpster. The delightful aroma of food
from the pile of trash below filled his nostrils. The hunger gnawed at his belly.
There was only one thing to do. Mustering what was left of his strength after
the long journey he launched himself into the air. Falling downward he fell into
the pile of trash some feet below. He landed on a pile of red cloth where some
worker had thrown away an old security uniform. The first rumblings of thunder
could be heard in the distance, and he wanted to eat before the rain began.
Finding food in the dumpster did not take long. Leftovers from worker lunches
were strewn everywhere through the piles of cast-off uniforms and broken equipment.
The raccoon gathered as much as he could carry, and went back to the pile of red
cloth to settle down for the night. Just as he reached the cloth, however, he
spied something shiny nearby. He pulled it out from the rest of the debris, and
looked it over. It was a small piece of clear glass with a handle on it. When
he looked through the glass, things looked larger than normal. He was not sure
what it was, but took it back to his warm pile of cloth and started to eat his
dinner. Just then the skies above opened, and the rain began to pour down!
The little raccoon pulled the red cloth over himself, feeling warm and dry beneath
it. Happily he munched on an old baloney sandwich, and thought life was good.
Little did he know his life was about to change, for somewhere above in the clouds,
fate was about to take a hand. Suddenly, a huge streak of lightning flashed
out of a cloud thousands of feet above. The bolt bore down upon the reactor building
like an arrow and split the air like nothing the little raccoon had ever seen
before. It headed directly for the dome-roofed reactor building. The lightning
crashed into the roof of the building with a vengeance, but the safety measures
held, and the bolt was redirected with no damage. Still, the bolt seemed to have
gained some of the radiation from within, for instead of being harmlessly sent
to ground, the energy surged onwards heading directly for the dumpster as the
little raccoon sat quietly eating his dinner. The aim of the lightning bolt
flew into the trash dumpster, and headed directly for the magnifying glass the
raccoon had set up on its handle. The power of the bolt streaked through the glass,
perhaps gaining further intensity from it, and hit an old tin can lying next to
the raccoon! Instantly, the entire dumpster was a sea of raw energy! It seethed
and danced on each and every object in the pile, surging through the little raccoon,
making his hair stand on end, and filling him with a power beyond his former ability.
He took the full measure of power from the lightning and spun him around in circles.
The last thing the little raccoon knew before he lost consciousness was the sound
of a dog howling from somewhere in the distance. Then the whole world went black.
Some time later the little raccoon began to open his eyes. It was still raining,
but things were now quiet. He tried to compose his thoughts, and came to know
he was sore all over. He was not hurt, however. There was just soreness in his
muscles as if they had been expanded. He stood up, and found he suddenly knew
what all the things around him were. He picked up the magnifying glass, and knew
it would help him see things more clearly. He also knew he needed to get out of
the dumpster. Instinctively, the raccoon picked up some of the red cloth he
had been using as a bed. One piece was torn into the shape of a cape he could
use to keep himself warm for a while. Soon he was on top of the dumpster, and
slowly descended the ladder. At the base of the ladder lay the dog he had
seen earlier in the evening. Then it became obvious where the howl had emanated.
The dog had been lying in his house, but his long tail had extended to where it
was touching the dumpster. Some of the energy must have hit the dog as well, knocking
him cold. Just as the raccoon was sneaking by the dog opened his eyes, and asked,
"Where're you going?" Without thinking the raccoon replied, "I'm
Uhhh
I'm going away, so you don't have to chase me. " Dogs always made
him nervous since they were usually unpredictable. "Awww
You don't
have to run away," the dog said. "I don't mind. It gets mighty lonely
out here, and I'd like to have a friend. Will you be my buddy?" Suddenly,
the raccoon realized he and the dog were speaking real words! They could communicate
with ease, knowing exactly what the other was saying. The energy in the bolt of
lightning had given them the power to understand things clearly, no matter how
deeply encoded they might otherwise be. He soon found he could also encrypt things
to keep them safe and protected from evil. That gave him an idea. He and the dog
would work together to protect the world from misunderstood communications, and
show everyone new ways understanding could be reached. The raccoon also realized
he could use this new power of encryption to protect himself and his friends from
the perils of the world around them. "Yes!," the raccoon said to
the dog. "Yes, I'll be your buddy, and you will be mine, and we will seek
out and destroy bad encoding everywhere. We will protect things to keep them safe.
You can be Privacy Pup! And I will be CryptoBuddy!!" CryptoBuddy and
Privacy Pup then found their way out of the complex, and headed towards the northeast.
They knew there was a great deal of misunderstanding in the state capitol, and
they were off to end it! |
